Ultimate Guide To Getting Your Blog Post SEO Optimized

The dream of every blogger is to create a viral content that will rank well in search results and also engage viewers. For some, writing for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) purposes and writing to attract and captivate your audience could seem two contradictory goals. I totally disagree with this. Indeed, if you not only want a good but also a SEO Friendly blog post, your keywords should be found in very strategic places.

As it is said, writing is a skill, and in order to maximize in your rankings or SEO,  you should also improve your writing skills.
Let me explain! To keep your reader interested, you should think about the structure of your post and write appealing texts. If people understand and like your text, they are much more inclined to share, like, tweet and link to your post, which will increase your rankings. You can help your readers get the main idea of your post by providing headings, subheadings, and clear paragraphs.

In this article, I will be throwing light on how you can create a blog post that will keep your readers interested and engaged.
It should be noted that this guide doesn’t cover every single SEO tactic under the sun. Rather, these tips are meant to get you started with improving SEO for your blog and blog posts in particular. Let’s get started.

#1. Make sure your blog is mobile-friendly.

For me, I think this should be the first question on your mind before thinking of writing an SEO optimized post, the simple truth is that for your blog post to be optimized, your blog has to be as well, and making your blog mobile-friendly will be a good step forward, because there is higher usage of Smartphones than PC.

#2. Research, Think and Write naturally.

The time you spend in the beginning thinking about what to write in your blog post, it’s time that you will save later in the process.
The first rule of writing is research. You have decided the topic. Now research your topic as more as you can, as this will give you broader view about the topic.

This is what I do:

On a daily basis, I read a number of articles related to SEO and Digital marketing from various blogs.

When I find a title or topic that is interesting and a candidate for one of my blogs, I copy the URL and title to my notes and work on making research and writing a good post out of this.

In doing this, I was able to generate quality content naturally. Once you have quality content, readers will likely to read more and eventually search engine will rank your link high in search results.

#3. Craft the Title and do Keyword research on it.

Next step is to decide what title you will be using for that blog post. Choosing a good and interesting title is a very important step for SEO purposes and user friendliness and there are different tools for writing click-worthy and shareable headlines.

A good title should contain the following:

– A character length between 55-60 so that it is shown without breaks in the SERPs.
– Accurately describes the content of the blog post
– Includes your target keyword (avoid stuffing keywords)
– Interesting to make users click your entry when displayed in the search engines results pages.

After deciding the blog post topic, the next thing to do is to focus on keyword selection.
Use keyword research tool to determine which keyword is most searched and relevant to the topic, this will allow the writer to know that which keyword has most search rate as well as competition.
Google Keyword Planner is the best free tool for this purpose.

#4. Create a structure for your blog post.

In order to get the most of what we want to achieve, you have to create a good and clear structure for your post, which should also include the following –

– A clear introduction to the post. (It’s also advisable for you to include your keywords here in a discreet way);
– Now the body of the post should follow (in which the main message is written);
– A conclusion (which should summarize the most important ideas and probably some new ideas).

After writing down what you want in all these three sections, You now have a kind of summary of your post. The real writing can begin.

#5. Optimize the meta description of that Post.

The description is key while trying to make something to both the search engines and humans as well…
A meta description is an additional text that appears in SERPs that lets readers know what the link is about. The meta description gives searchers information they need to determine whether or not your content is what they’re looking for, which helps them decide if they’ll click or not. So optimizing this well so a lot of good. How can you add meta description to posts?
You can do this but just adding the descriptive words in the Search Description tab, under Post Settings in your posting dashboard.

#6. Optimize your images and other media elements.

Blog posts shouldn’t only contain only words, you should also include images, videos, graphs, and other media elements, so as to better explain your content.
Because search engines can’t “see” images the same way humans can, Rather, they look for images with alt text, which tells them what the image is about and ultimately helps those images be found in the search.
Although Google has made it clear that they cannot yet understand the context of an image or video (while crawling a page), yet many webmasters fail to follow the rules of making their images SEO optimized.
Technically, alt text is an attribute that can be added to an image tag in HTML. Here’s what a complete image tag might look like (bolding added for emphasis):

<img class=”alignCenter Image” src=”image.jpg” alt=”image-description” title=”image title”>

Note: it will be useless to add keywords as the image alt, it will be best if you keep it simple and describe the image, e.g blog-seo-tutorial.jpg

#7. Always link your content to previous contents.

Whenever you write a new piece, try to associate it with already published blog posts on your blog, Internal linking is a very effective, it will make your post stronger because you show some authority on the subject as It helps search engines discover new pages on your website – when crawling a page, search engine spiders will follow any link (that doesn’t have the no-follow attribute), and add it to their index (if it does not exist).. It’s also a great way to give users an option to click a link and read more about a topic.It’s one of the techniques you can use to reduce the bounce rate and keep users on your website for more time.

#8. Optimize the length of your blog post.

Make sure your articles have a minimum of 300 words. Google likes long articles, and studies have shown that longer posts perform better in search and they tend to receive more likes and mentions in social media. But the doesn’t mean shorter posts aren’t good, all I will suggest is that whether long or short what matters is your ability to satisfy the need of your users with quality contents, if your content is widely accepted, your ranking will definitely increase.

If you follow these few steps, then I am sure that you are on the right track to getting good quality traffic and SEO for your blog posts without stress, if you do these in every post on your blog, you will see results within months. Thanks for reading.
